The netifyd software is an open source deep packet inspection (DPI) engine. The software is able to classify traffic and detect protocols like BitTorrent, Remote Desktop Protocol, VPNs, Skype and over 180 other protocols. In addition, the software extracts SSL/TLS signatures, hostnames, user agents, and other network metadata in order to detect (but not decrypt!) encrypted applications like Facebook, Snapchat, and more. This data can then be used to help manage networks in the age of always-on encrypted traffic - bandwidth shaping, QoS, SD-WAN optimization, router management and more.
The small footprint makes it possible to embed netifyd on low-power systems, even with tens of thousands of application detection engine signatures enabled. Netifyd is also available across a variety of platforms: Linux, OpenWRT, FreeBSD and others.
