Abitaz is a ‘side project’ of dmlights, the online shop for (designer) lighting. Being lighting specialists, it’s very important for us to always keep up with the latest interior and design trends. To do so, we’ve spent countless hours digging through inspiration platforms, interior blogs and community websites.During these sessions, we’ve noticed there were a bunch of sites available, but none of them covered our expectations entirely. This was the starting signal for an ambitious project. We’d create our own home inspiration platform on dmlights. On this platform our users would find inspiration and solutions to their decorating/remodeling problems.Beside beautiful interior pics, we’d also need products to decorate your house and professionals to realize your project and all of this with a typical European approach. Soon we realized that, within the dmlights website, we couldn’t give our project the freedom it needed to become the platform we were looking for…

So, we decided to cut the platform loose from dmlights. We founded a new company, put together an enthusiastic team and started the search for the perfect name. After extensive brainstorm sessions, we chose Abitaz. Not only is it short for abitazione, which is Italian for home, it’s a reference to ‘your habitat, from A to Z’.Because we didn’t want to start off with an empty website, we’ve searched for the best professionals in the home industry and the coolest brands for remodeling and decorating.At first, it wasn’t easy to convince professional users to join a non-existing platform. But in the end, we had a network with around a hundred professionals, shattered across Flanders and a catalog of about sixty great brands to launch Abitaz. Of course, our goal is to rapidly expand our network with more types of professionals, more brands and new countries. After all, we’re Abitaz, the next level in home inspiration.
