0 A.D. is a free, open-source, cross-platform real-time strategy (RTS) game of ancient warfare. In short, it is a historically-based war/economy game that allows players to relive or rewrite the history of Western civilizations, focusing on the years between 500 B.C. and 500 A.D. The project is highly ambitious, involving state-of-the-art 3D graphics, detailed artwork, sound, and a flexible and powerful custom-built game engine.

Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress is a single-player fantasy simulator. You can control a dwarven outpost or an adventurer in a randomly generated, persistent world. The world is procedurally generated with distinct civilizations spanning centuries of detailed history, multitude of towns, bodies of water, caves and regions with various wildlife. The world persists as long as you like, over many games, recording historical events and tracking changes.

RimWorld

RimWorld follows three survivors from a crashed space liner as they build a colony on a frontier world at the rim of known space. Inspired by the space western vibe of Firefly, the deep simulation of Dwarf Fortress, and the epic scale of Dune and Warhammer 40,000. Manage colonists' moods, needs, individual wounds, and illnesses. Engage in small-team tactical gunplay. Stronghold

Stronghold Crusader is a RTS game from the series from Stronghold. In Stronghold Crusader the player can play as either the legendary Richard the Lionheart or the formidable Saladin. A mix of real-time strategy and city-building games, the game's desert setting requires strategies adapted to the environment and its lack of water. There are 50 skirmish missions to be fought in sequence.
