Central Access Reader (CAR) is a free, open source, text-to-speech application, which reads docx files and pasted text using the voices installed on your computer. It currently works only on 64-bit Windows.
CAR can export content to MP3 and HTML files and can also read Math and Logic Equations (supports Word’s Equation Editor and MathType math formats). CAR has a customizable, user-friendly interface and it allows to alter a voice's parameters, including rate and pitch. CAR is an excellent choice for students with print-related disabilities.
