VeraCrypt's ability to encrypt client-side data is nearly universally beloved, though other apps featuring client-side encryption are available. With that said, you might be looking for alternatives that support Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (or WebDAV for short), since VeraCrypt does not feature this ability.
Other features that VeraCrypt users might find lacking include the ability to integrate with Windows Explorer, as well as support for Universal Disk Format files. As VeraCrypt is not compatible with Android, iOS, or BSD, users of those operating systems will find alternatives available for them here as well.
If you want similar software to VeraCrypt, we have a list for that. Are there VeraCrypt alternatives out there? Let's find out.
EncFS provides an encrypted filesystem in user-space. It runs without any special permissions and uses the FUSE library and Linux kernel module to provide the filesystem interface. You can find links to source and binary releases below. EncFS is open source software, licensed under the GPL. As with most encrypted filesystems, Encfs is meant to provide security against off-line attacks; ie your notebook or backups fall into the wrong hands, etc.
Password-encryption of files and folders. The program is written in Java and therefore platform-independent and runs on nearly every system without installation, but requires a Java Runtime Environment - that is already installed in most cases. File PEA encrypts files and folders with authenticated encryption to protect confidentiality and integrity of the data and uses memory-hard key derivation functions to prevent custom hardware attacks.
